What is your vision for the future of downtown New West?

Columbia Street - New Westminster - real estate

At Salient, we strive to bring innovation and livability, not only to our projects, but also through a sincere desire to understand the neighborhoods that we join. We believe that a community’s strength is founded on an area’s history and its people.

And while this authentic history is irreplaceable, we believe that evolution is inevitable, and is best informed upon not only by those who have forever occupied it, but those who aspire to also make that place their home.

With Trapp + Holbrook in New West, we’re asking the community for input to help us envision the evolution of our small piece of Columbia Street— and this time, we’re doing it online. We’ve partnered with the popular website Vancity Buzz to get your input on the types of service, amenity, shops, necessities, etc we should consider for the Trapp + Holbrook street level retail spaces on Columbia Street.

Orling & Wu

We believe that the choice of business for a retail space can have a significant impact on the character of an area, and therefore on its revitalization. For our projects in Gastown, we favoured local independent retailers such as Acme Café, Orling & Wu, and Boneta over national chain brands. This is no accident — we believe that attracting interesting local independent retailers adds both economic and social value to a neighbourhood. From what we’ve seen in Gastown, a much beloved area in Vancouver that has maintained its character, this philosophy works.  Visit our Facebook gallery for photos of our some of our current shops and restaurants in Gastown to see what type of businesses we have welcomed.

Since beginning the Vancity Buzz contest on September 27, we’ve received over 100 entries, with deli and bakeries and fruit and veggie stores currently the most popular suggestions. Here are some select input to date:
