The Purple Lights Of Our Ancient Basements

purple

Have a stroll around the older parts of Vancouver – specifically in and around the periphery of the Downtown Eastside – and it likely won’t take long for you to spot the little 3″ purple glass squares embedded in the oldest sections of sidewalk. These are known as vault lights or sidewalk prisms.

New York Could Look Radically Different In Just A Few Years!

The New New York Skyline!

NY

Manhattan is in the midst of an unprecedented boom in tall buildings. Before 2004, Manhattan was home to 28 skyscrapers 700 feet and taller. Since then, an additional 13 have been built, 15 are under construction, and 19 are proposed—47 more in all. These additions are rapidly—and radically—changing the skyline.

New Westminster embracing Fraser River Waterfront

Previously neglected, the Fraser River waterfront is now the place to be in New Westminster. Taking cues from Vancouver’s successful Coal Harbour and False Creek neighborhoods, the city of New Westminster has plans to reorient themselves towards the Fraser River.

12

With passionate and esteemed engineer, Mark Shieh’s, makeover of the New Westminster Quay and River Market along with the award-winning revitalization of Westminster Pier Park, the riverfront has really begun to attract developers and investors to the area. See what Business in Vancouver had to say about the rising interest of the Fraser River waterfront here.

13

With the little availability of oceanfront views in BC, the riverfront’s expansive views are the next best thing. At Trapp+Holbrook we have taken advantage of these river views embracing them with our historic homes with modern décor and finishes. Find out more about our riverfront homes at our Presentation Centre located at 702 Columbia Street. The Sales Team is happy to assist you every day 12pm-5pm, except Fridays.

WAIT FOR ME DADDY MONUMENT

The City of New Westminster has commissioned internationally acclaimed sculptors, Veronica and Edwin Dam De Nogales, to create a war memorial sculpture, based on Wait for Me Daddy, Canada’s iconic World War II photograph by Province Newspaper photographer, Claude P. Dettloff.

If you aren’t familiar with the Wait for me Daddy photo taken on October 1, 1940, Dettloff was photographing The British Columbian Regiment marching down 8th Street in New Westminster. In a random moment, Dettloff snapped a young boy, Whitey Bernard, escape his mother’s grasp and run towards his father marching off to war. Wait for Me Daddy became an enduring symbol of Canada’s World War II effort.

1

The monument was unveiled October 4, 2014 at Hyak Square, near the exact spot where Dettloff captured this special moment. The Anvil Centre has launched an exhibit running through October 4th to January 24th to highlight the sculpture and historic photograph. This exhibit is complimentary and open to the public.

2

We encourage you to visit the Wait for Me Daddy exhibit and statue at the newly opened Anvil Centre. Trapp+Holbrook is located just a short walk’s away from this exciting and educational exhibit. Be sure to stop by while you’re in the area to learn more about this historic neighbourhood and how it could be your new home.

We are open daily from 12-5pm except Friday at 702 Columbia Street. We hope to see you soon!
