Salient is redeveloping 840 Fort Street, into a 6-storey, mixed-use building with ground level retail and 60 purpose built rental homes.

It is being transformed from its 1909 Edwardian origins with all new construction behind the historic façade.  For 35-years this building was home to Sawyer Sewing Centres, a landmark family business that provided the building with its title the “Sawyer Block” and is still in operation today on Douglas Street.

Vacant since 2005, the Sawyer Block is being revitalized and the handsome façade is being restored. From its historic base, a new rental building will be constructed with ground floor, neighbourhood retail space and 60-new urban studios and junior 1-bedroom homes.

With a minimum ceiling height of 9 feet and up to 12 feet, these homes will live and breathe larger than their footprint. Sawyer Block has been thoughtfully conceived for compact living.
